China Introduces Visa-Free Travel for Norwegian Citizens

Norwegian citizens now have the opportunity to enter China for stays of up to 15 days without a visa thanks to a recent announcement. This program, which was unveiled at a meeting between Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Chinese President Xi Jinping will cover a range of uses including transit business, tourism, and family visits. However Norwegian visitors will have to go through the usual visa application processes if they want to stay longer than 15 days.

China is implementing this action as part of a larger plan to improve diplomatic and commercial relations with many nations by reducing travel restrictions. Norway is now one of the several countries that are gaining access to China with less restrictions. The European Union (EU) nations of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain will be able to enter China without a visa starting in March 2024 and it will remain in effect until December 31, 2025.

More collaboration between China and Norway is anticipated as a result of the visa waiver, which makes travel easier for Norwegian nationals, particularly for students and business travellers. Reciprocal policies for Chinese nationals travelling to the Schengen Area are not anticipated anytime soon, though, given EU policy is decided upon collectively rather than nationally.
